Data Protection Officer (DPO)
About the assignment
A major organisation is seeking an experienced DPO to drive privacy governance and regulatory compliance. You'll manage data protection impact assessments, lead consent frameworks, and advise leadership on emerging privacy risks including AI regulation and NIS2 requirements.
You work across multiple departments, embedding privacy-by-design into business processes and technology projects. Your role combines strategic compliance oversight with hands-on investigation and remediation of data protection incidents.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and maintain GDPR, AI Act and sector-specific compliance roadmaps
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new systems and processing activities
- Manage data subject requests, breach investigations and regulatory correspondence
- Design and deliver privacy awareness training to staff at all levels
- Partner with IT, Legal and Business teams to embed privacy-by-design principles
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise the board on compliance obligations
- Maintain privacy documentation, registers and audit trails

Must-haves
- 5+ years experience in data protection, privacy or compliance roles
- Deep knowledge of GDPR, ePrivacy and AI Act requirements
- Experience conducting DPIAs and managing data subject requests
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Fluent in Dutch and English
Nice-to-haves
- Background in a regulated sector (finance, healthcare, energy)
- Experience with privacy platforms (OneTrust, TrustArc or Collibra)
- CIPP/E or equivalent privacy certification
- Familiarity with NIS2, DORA or sector-specific frameworks
