OT Cyber Security Consultant
About the assignment
Operational technology (OT) networks—power plants, water systems, manufacturing facilities—face increasing cyber threats. You work with a leading organisation to secure these mission-critical systems.
Your challenge: balance robust security controls with operational continuity. OT environments cannot simply apply IT security practices; they demand specialised knowledge of industrial protocols, legacy systems, and safety-critical processes.
You'll advise on architecture, conduct risk assessments, and drive security maturity across OT infrastructure.
Your responsibilities
- Assess OT network security posture using industry frameworks and identify vulnerabilities specific to industrial control systems
- Design segmentation strategies and access controls that protect critical assets without disrupting production
- Conduct threat modelling for operational technology environments using MITRE ATT&CK for ICS
- Develop incident response and recovery plans tailored to OT incident timelines and safety constraints
- Advise on security tool deployment (firewalls, intrusion detection, asset monitoring) in brownfield OT environments
- Liaise with engineering teams to translate security requirements into operational procedures
- Support compliance audits against IEC 62443, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and sector-specific regulations

Must-haves
- 5+ years experience securing operational technology or industrial control systems
- Deep knowledge of OT protocols (Modbus, Profibus, DNP3) and architectures
- Hands-on experience with industrial firewalls, switches, and security appliances
- Understanding of safety-critical system design and operational constraints
- Strong communication skills to bridge engineering and IT security teams
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with SCADA, PLC programming, or industrial engineering
- Familiarity with energy, water, or manufacturing sector regulations
- Background in incident response within OT environments
