IAM Specialist – SailPoint & Access Governance
About the assignment
You join the Ministry of Defence's IAM transformation, operating in a high-stakes environment where access decisions directly impact national security and operational continuity. You will architect and optimize authorization models, ensuring that civilian and military users have precisely the right access, at the right time, with full auditability.
Your focus is on structuring RBAC frameworks, preparing the transition to ABAC, and strengthening governance processes. You'll support large-scale IT programs like GrIT, manage the full user lifecycle, and collaborate across security teams and business units to translate requirements into practical IAM solutions.
Your responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize RBAC structures within SailPoint; prepare the organization for transition toward ABAC
- Strengthen IAM governance processes and ensure compliance with security policies; implement audit-ready procedures for internal and external reviews
- Manage user access across the full lifecycle: onboarding, role changes, and offboarding; streamline workflows and maintain data integrity
- Integrate IAM solutions with source systems, applications, and HR platforms; develop and maintain automated provisioning and deprovisioning processes
- Support large-scale IT transitions and transformation programs; identify risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with IT teams, security officers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and provide guidance on IAM best practices
- Maintain visibility of access rights through dashboards, reports, and audit trails; support continuous improvement and provide actionable insights to leadership

Must-haves
- Proven experience designing and implementing RBAC structures in complex environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with SailPoint or comparable IAM platforms
- Knowledge of identity governance, compliance requirements, and audit processes
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience managing user lifecycle (onboarding, role changes, offboarding)
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with ABAC transition strategies and attribute-driven access models
- Experience supporting large-scale IT transformation programs
- Knowledge of defence or public sector security frameworks
