Privacy Adviser
About the assignment
A major government organisation is building capacity in its privacy function. You join a small, high-impact team advising directorates and senior executives on complex privacy and data protection issues. Your work directly shapes how the organisation handles sensitive personal data and manages regulatory compliance.
This is a 6-month contract (September 2026 – March 2027) for 24 hours per week. You'll handle Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) independently, from intake through final advice, while supporting colleagues across the organisation with compliance questions and risk identification.
Your responsibilities
- Advise directorates, directors-general, and colleagues on GDPR compliance and privacy risk issues
- Lead and conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) end-to-end, from scoping to recommendations
- Support the privacy team and internal stakeholders with ongoing privacy compliance questions
- Identify risks proactively and translate legislation into actionable, practical guidance
- Contribute to raising the organisation's overall privacy maturity and compliance posture
- Handle sensitive, complex privacy matters requiring deep legal and regulatory expertise

Must-haves
- HBO-level education or equivalent professional qualification
- Proven experience with GDPR and privacy law within government or semi-public sector
- Demonstrated experience independently conducting, designing, and guiding DPIAs
- Knowledge of privacy risk management and regulatory compliance frameworks
- Strong ability to translate complex legislation into practical advice
Nice-to-haves
- CIPP/E or equivalent privacy certification
- Legal background or formal legal training
- Experience with legislative DPIAs and high-complexity privacy matters
