Privacy & Government Funding Advisor (AVG & Staatssteun)
About the assignment
You support a leading Dutch organisation in managing two critical compliance domains: GDPR/AVG data protection and government subsidy administration (staatssteun). These areas require specialist knowledge as regulations tighten and funding scrutiny increases.
You act as the primary advisor for privacy impact assessments, data processing agreements, and subsidy eligibility verification. You bridge legal requirements with operational reality, training teams and documenting policies that withstand audits.
Your responsibilities
- Conduct GDPR/AVG compliance audits and develop remediation roadmaps for data handling practices
- Draft and review data processing agreements (DPA), privacy policies, and data subject request procedures
- Assess government subsidy eligibility, eligibility criteria compliance, and reporting obligations
- Train staff on data protection requirements and subsidy-related record-keeping standards
- Maintain compliance documentation and prepare for regulatory inspections by DPA and subsidy authorities
- Advise on privacy by design principles when new systems or data flows are introduced
- Monitor changes in AVG and staatssteun regulations; update policies accordingly

Must-haves
- 5+ years experience with GDPR/AVG compliance and data protection regulation
- Deep knowledge of Dutch government subsidy rules and reporting obligations
- Experience with data processing agreements and privacy impact assessments
- Fluent in Dutch and English (written and spoken)
- Understanding of audit processes and regulatory inspection preparation
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with compliance platforms (OneTrust, TrustArc, Collibra)
- Background in legal, compliance, or risk management
- Familiarity with AI Act and emerging privacy regulations
- Experience advising financial or government organisations
