About the assignment
A leading research university in the Netherlands seeks an experienced Privacy Officer to join their Privacy Office on an interim basis. You'll operate as the second line of defense for data protection, advising faculties and departments on GDPR compliance, privacy risks, and incident response.
Your focus is operational: handling privacy quickscans, conducting DPIAs, drafting processor agreements, and managing data subject requests. You balance pragmatic problem-solving with regulatory rigor, ensuring privacy becomes a trust enabler rather than an obstacle.
Your responsibilities
- Advise faculties and departments on privacy requirements, assess compliance maturity, and monitor risk mitigation progress
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Quickscans to identify and document privacy risks
- Draft and review processor agreements and data-sharing agreements aligned with GDPR obligations
- Handle data subject requests (access, correction, deletion) and ensure timely, compliant responses
- Investigate and manage privacy incidents and complaints from staff, students, and researchers
- Deliver privacy awareness training and develop clear, accessible guidance materials for the organisation
- Collaborate with colleagues using Privacy Office procedures and escalate complex issues appropriately
- Provide timely counsel on privacy questions to maintain trust and smooth operations
