Senior Cybersecurity Advisor – Education Sector
About the assignment
A major public organisation supporting digital infrastructure in education is strengthening its cybersecurity team. You operate at the intersection of information security, privacy, and educational digital transformation—directly improving the cyber resilience of school boards across the Netherlands.
You take on two complementary roles: project team member in a national routing function initiative (circa 1 day/week) and senior advisor within the cybersecurity team. You bridge central strategy with field-level needs, gather stakeholder feedback, and activate a professional community around information security and privacy standards in education.
Your responsibilities
- Represent the organisation as project team member in the national routing function initiative; collect and centralise stakeholder feedback, routing insights to relevant projects
- Identify gaps in current digital safety offerings and encourage school boards to conduct self-evaluations against recognised frameworks
- Moderate the information security and privacy community on the digital education network platform; shape discussions around standards and emerging threats
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to activate and grow the online professional community in collaboration with the community manager
- Deliver knowledge-sharing sessions on information security and privacy practices tailored to the education sector
- Attend stakeholder meetings and sector events to gather intelligence on current challenges, emerging risks, and digital transformation trends in schools
- Advise on alignment with information security and privacy standards specific to educational organisations

Must-haves
- HBO or WO degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Privacy, or related field
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in cybersecurity advisory or GRC roles
- Proven experience in public or semi-public sector cybersecurity contexts
- Strong knowledge of ISO 27001, GDPR, and information security/privacy standards
- Demonstrated ability to build and nurture professional communities or networks
Nice-to-haves
- Background in education sector or understanding of educational digital transformation challenges
- Experience facilitating knowledge-sharing across non-technical stakeholder groups
- Track record activating online communities and driving engagement
