Solution Architect Command & Control
About the assignment
You join a newly formed sub-domain (established April 2024) within the Civil Operational Command & Control - Intelligence and Security department. Your focus: the Command & Control value stream architecture serving the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
You translate operational requirements into enterprise-aligned technical solutions. This involves integrating COTS/MOTS software, custom development, and police system integrations onto the new GrIT infrastructure—a modern, secure platform with specific connection requirements.
You guide multidisciplinary DevOps teams, collaborate with peer architects, and ensure solutions meet quality, security, and operational standards. This contract role is positioned for permanent integration into the organisation.
Your responsibilities
- Design integrated Command & Control architecture that aligns with enterprise standards and operational needs
- Translate customer requirements into technical solutions within JIVC framework and GrIT infrastructure constraints
- Lead multidisciplinary teams in developing and validating architecture designs, integration approaches, and rollout strategies
- Monitor solution quality and security compliance; address risks and dependencies across the value stream
- Collaborate with peer architects to ensure cohesion across value streams and organisational alignment
- Develop architecture documentation, maps, and design specifications for internal and external stakeholders
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing in the COC2 department architecture working group
- Support technical coordination with chain partners and external systems integration

Must-haves
- 5+ years experience designing enterprise architecture solutions that meet customer needs and governance frameworks
- 3+ years leading and motivating multidisciplinary technical teams
- 3+ years IT Governance experience in government or comparable defence/security environments
- HBO degree minimum (WO degree preferred) in IT/Architecture or equivalent professional experience
- Strong stakeholder communication: translate complex technical solutions into clear language for multiple levels
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with defence IT landscapes, GrIT, or comparable modern infrastructure transformation programmes
- Knowledge of information security and protection frameworks in operational command & control contexts
- Experience integrating COTS/MOTS solutions with custom development in complex, regulated environments
