OT Security Engineer
About the assignment
A leading organisation operating critical infrastructure relies on you to safeguard operational technology (OT) environments from evolving cyber threats. You work at the intersection of IT and OT security, where downtime costs millions and safety is non-negotiable.
Your challenge: implement defense-in-depth strategies for SCADA, PLC, and industrial control systems while maintaining operational continuity. You assess risks specific to OT—from protocol vulnerabilities to air-gap bypass techniques—and design mitigations that don't disrupt production.
Your impact: reduce attack surface in critical systems, enable secure digital transformation of legacy infrastructure, and position the organisation as resilient against industrial cyber threats.
Your responsibilities
- Design and deploy network segmentation, DMZ architecture, and air-gapping strategies for OT environments
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability management specific to SCADA, PLC, RTU, and IED systems
- Monitor OT network traffic using specialised tools; detect anomalies and respond to incidents
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement security controls without disrupting production
- Develop and maintain OT security policies, procedures, and asset inventories
- Stay current with NIST Cybersecurity Framework for Manufacturing, IEC 62443, and NERC CIP standards
- Test incident response plans and disaster recovery procedures in OT environments
- Advise on secure procurement and lifecycle management of industrial control systems

Must-haves
- 5+ years in OT/ICS security or critical infrastructure protection
- Deep understanding of industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, Profibus) and control systems architecture
- Experience with network segmentation, monitoring, and anomaly detection in OT environments
- Knowledge of IEC 62443, NIST Framework for Manufacturing, or similar OT standards
- Ability to balance security requirements with operational continuity and safety criticality
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with SCADA forensics or OT incident response
- Familiarity with Fortinet, Nozomi, or similar OT-specific security platforms
- Background in mechanical engineering or process automation
