About the assignment

You're the linchpin between policy, execution, and data protection at a multi-council public sector organisation. You design and embed privacy controls into existing processes and systems, making measurable impact at local government level.

You advise colleagues and elected officials on lawful data handling, monitor GDPR compliance, and lead improvement initiatives. Close collaboration with legal, IT, and process teams is essential—as is strengthening privacy awareness across all councils.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies aligned with GDPR and national data protection law
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and privacy risk analyses for new projects and systems
  • Monitor compliance with AVG and relevant legislation; identify gaps and recommend remediation
  • Advise leadership, council members, and colleagues on lawful processing of sensitive data
  • Design and embed privacy controls into organisational workflows and IT systems
  • Lead data governance and privacy improvement projects to completion
  • Build privacy awareness across the organisation and partner municipalities

Must-haves

  • Demonstrated experience as Privacy Officer or equivalent role
  • Deep knowledge of GDPR, Dutch data protection law, and DPIA execution
  • HBO/WO degree (preferably Law, Public Administration, or Information Management)
  • Strong advisory and communication skills; ability to explain complex privacy issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Analytical, structured approach: you identify risks, design controls, and drive implementation

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public sector or municipal organisations
  • CIPP/E or CIPM certification
  • Familiarity with privacy tools (OneTrust, TrustArc, Collibra)
  • Background in AI compliance or emerging privacy regulations
