Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)
About the assignment
A leading government organisation is establishing its Information Services, Data & Compliance department and seeking a strategic CISO to build its security foundation. You'll shape information security policy aligned with Digital Transformation Strategy 2030, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability across systems that directly impact citizens and organisations.
You report to the CIO and sit within the Management Team. This is a key leadership role where you translate security policy into concrete actions, drive compliance, and embed security awareness throughout the organisation.
Your responsibilities
- Formulate, maintain, and test information security policy for relevance and effectiveness
- Advise CIO and management on security strategy aligned with evolving regulations (BIO, NIS2, GDPR)
- Translate security policy into concrete implementation actions and oversee execution
- Design and conduct security impact analyses and effectiveness reviews
- Drive security awareness through training and communications across all levels
- Report on policy results, security incidents, remediation progress, and compliance status
- Represent the organisation in external security forums and regulatory bodies
- Lead the establishment of the Information Services, Data & Compliance department

Must-haves
- Minimum 3 years as Chief Information Security Officer
- CISM, C|CISO, or CISSP certification
- Proven knowledge of BIO, ISO 27001/27002, and GDPR
- HBO-level education or equivalent
- Experience in public sector or government IT environments
Nice-to-haves
- Background in public administration or computer science
- Multi-year experience in similar CISO role within government
- Project management and strategic policy development experience
- Knowledge of current security design models and techniques
