Privacy Officer – Public Safety & Enforcement
About the assignment
A leading government organisation's Safety & Enforcement department handles public order, security operations, and citizen interactions daily. Privacy is increasingly critical in this domain—balancing effective enforcement with rigorous data protection.
You'll work at the intersection of law enforcement practice and privacy legislation. You're the bridge between field officers, legal teams, and IT specialists, translating complex regulations into practical solutions that protect citizens while enabling safe communities.
Your responsibilities
- Advise colleagues on privacy matters across safety and enforcement operations
- Assess processes and systems for compliance with GDPR, WPG, and related legislation
- Conduct and oversee Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects
- Develop and guide Privacy and Utility Mapping (PUM) documentation
- Identify and analyse privacy risks in new policies and operational initiatives
- Handle data breach notifications and privacy incident reporting
- Support citizen requests including data access and deletion applications
- Build privacy awareness across the workforce in enforcement roles

Must-haves
- HBO or WO degree (law, public administration, security, information management or equivalent)
- Solid knowledge of GDPR and Dutch privacy legislation (WPG familiarity preferred)
- Hands-on experience with DPIAs, privacy policies, or data protection programmes
- Ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance for non-legal teams
- Strong analytical and communication skills; approachable and collaborative style
Nice-to-haves
- Background in public sector, law enforcement, or safety operations
- Experience supporting data access and deletion requests at scale
- Familiarity with privacy tools and incident management systems
